Thames Hospice has been named as the very first space to have Passed GO on the brand new MONOPOLY board for Royal Windsor.
We topped a public vote to star on the new board, and the new game will hit shops on Friday October 5th, in time for Christmas, say the games makers Winning Moves UK, under official license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro.
In this new edition, Thames Hospice - who the game makers say ran a 'great campaign' to get on the board - will be appearing on its very own Community Chest space, adjacent to the orange property squares. A delighted Debbie Raven, Thames Hospice Chief Executive, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be featuring on Windsor's very own MONOPOLY board, and to be the very first space to be announced is a real honour.
"We have been supporting local families for more than 30 years, so we are proud to have topped the poll and to be recognised as such a vital part of the community. Thank you to everyone who voted for us. This will make a fantastic gift for everyone in and around Windsor this Christmas."
Jennifer Lau, who is a Custom Games Executive at the games maker Winning Moves, commented: "Congratulations to Thames Hospice; they ran the most imaginative and great campaign - and many thanks to everyone who voted.
"It's going to be a spectacular launch with a red carpet rolled out to boot! Thames Hospice will get to star and feature on a Community Chest space we feel this is an appropriate position on the board, with Thames Hospice being such an integral part of the Royal Windsor community."
Ms Lau added: "There were two polls held earlier in the year. One for general landmarks, a second specifically for charities. The response to both was beyond our expectation. We would like to thank each and every person who took the time to vote and to nominate. We have studied each suggestion and vote in their thousands and the board is now in the production stage."
As well as town landmarks appearing on the property spaces made famous in the original London game. Every location - from Mayfair to Park Lane - most of the Chance and Community Chest cards will be heavily Royal Windsor themed too. Windsor Castle, the Queen Victoria Statue, The Guildhall and Peascod Street have each been reported as likely to feature on the new board.
"The game will be a celebration of and a love letter to Royal Windsor," adds Ms Lau.
