Thames Hospice has appointed Dr Rachael de Caux as the new Chief Executive. Rachael will be joining Thames Hospice on 1 December 2024 and will lead the charity to deliver the next phase of its vision and strategy.

Rachael brings a wealth of clinical and strategic leadership experience across the NHS and not-for-profit sector to Thames Hospice. She is currently Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Medical Officer of the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB). Rachael is also a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and previously worked as a voluntary Pre-Hospital Care Physician with Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.

Speaking about her appointment, Rachael de Caux said: “I am delighted to be joining this outstanding organisation, and excited to be leading the next chapter. I am already struck by the passion and commitment demonstrated by the staff and volunteers here, and feel privileged to play a role in ensuring all patients and their families continue to receive compassionate, high-quality end-of-life support.”

Rachael replaces Catherine McLaughlin who has led the Hospice through a period of significant change and transformation over the last two years. Catherine has made the decision to retire after 40 years in a number of clinical executive leadership roles across the NHS.

Chris Aitken, Chair of Trustees at Thames Hospice, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Catherine for her dedication and commitment to Thames Hospice. She leaves Thames Hospice in a strong position and will be greatly missed by the staff and volunteers.

“The Board and I are thrilled to welcome Rachael to Thames Hospice and her appointment marks an exciting chapter in our journey. Rachael brings an impressive wealth of experience to lead our exceptional teams, help us navigate the challenges ahead and ensure we continue to provide excellent, compassionate hospice care for our local community."
