A record-breaking 172 swimmers took to the water on Sunday 14 June for Thames Hospice's annual Open Water Swim Challenge, raising over an incredible £61,000 to support vital hospice care across the local community.

The event, held at Bray Lake, welcomed its highest-ever number of participants, who collectively raised the largest amount in the event's history. Swimmers of all abilities embraced the challenge, enjoying ideal conditions as friends, family and supporters lined the shore of Bray Lake to cheer them on.

Among those making waves were brother and sister Ben and Claire, who took part in memory of their mum, who was cared for by Thames Hospice at home during her final days.

Reflecting on the experience, Ben said: "The conditions and the weather were brilliant." Asked what his favourite part of the day was, he laughed: "The bit when we got out." His advice to anyone thinking of taking part next year? "Go for it! It's not a race, it's very relaxed and really well organised."

Claire added: "Challenge yourself!"

After completing their swims, participants celebrated their achievement with well-earned medals and refreshments, knowing that every stroke had helped raise funds to ensure local families continue to receive expert hospice care when they need it most.

Emma Andrews, Events Fundraiser at Thames Hospice, said:

"This year's Open Water Swim has been our biggest and most successful yet. Seeing a record number of swimmers come together and raise a record-breaking £61,000 has been truly incredible. We're so grateful to everyone who took part, fundraised, volunteered and supported the event.

"This generous amount could fund the salaries of our nursing team delivering Outpatient Services for the rest of this year. This compassionate team supports patients through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. These services are a vital lifeline, offering expert care, comfort and connection to help patients live as well as possible with their diagnosis."

Thames Hospice would like to thank everyone who took part, donated, volunteered or came along to support the event. Special thanks also go to Bray Lake Watersports for their continued partnership and invaluable support in helping deliver a safe, enjoyable and successful Open Water Swim Challenge.
