Hospice volunteering
From welcoming visitors on reception to serving afternoon tea, or driving patients to and from therapy appointments, by volunteering at the Hospice you will be a key part of a special team.
From welcoming visitors on reception to serving afternoon tea, or driving patients to and from therapy appointments, by volunteering at the Hospice you will be a key part of a special team.
Volunteers also support us directly with our patients, including providing activities for our day therapy patients, befriending, counseling or offering therapies.
We sometimes have volunteer roles available in support functions too including HR, marketing and general administration.
Have a look at the different roles available below, or click the button below to apply.

For roles within the Hospice you will need to be aged 18 or over,. If you are aged 16 or over you can volunteer in our Café by the Lake or charity shops.
We take a flexible approach to volunteering to make sure it fits in with your life. Normally a volunteer will do one 4-hour shift per week, but if you would prefer to volunteer on a ad-hoc basis, or more than once a week, then that’s not a problem. Let us know your availability when you apply.
You can see whether a role requires a particular skill or qualification on the role description by clicking on the role descriptions above. Generally, most roles we will be able to train you, you just need to be willing to get stuck in and be part of the team.
Thank you for thinking of the Hospice to put your special skill to good use! Please get in touch with the Volunteer Services team in the first instance to discuss; email us or call 01753 842121.
Once we have received your completed application a member of the team will be in touch to invite you in for an informal interview. This is an informal chat so we can find out more about you, and so you can find out more about the role and the Hospice to check that it’s the right opportunity for you. Following this, if both you and the Hospice are happy to go ahead with your volunteering placement, we will send you an offer pack with a little bit of paperwork to do. For most roles within the Hospice we require a DBS check, which we will carry out with you, and references. For certain roles we will also need to check your qualifications or driving/car details too. When all your checks are complete we will be in touch to arrange your training shifts.
For all our Hospice-based roles volunteers are required to complete training. Some of this will be e-learning, which we will support and guide you through, and some will be face-to-face practical training to show you how to carry out your role. We also offer additional optional training from time to time, for example Communication Skills.
This depends on the volunteer role you are interested in as it depends on when the service or function is open. You can find out full details on the role description by clicking on the various roles above. If you’d like our help to find a volunteer role that fits in with your availability please don’t hesitate to contact the Volunteer Services team via email or call 01753 842121.
As a Hospice we understand that people cope with a bereavement in many different ways. Although we do recommend waiting a while between a close bereavement and volunteering in a patient facing role, we understand that you may feel that you are ready to volunteer sooner after a bereavement. Through coming in to the Hospice for your informal interview and your training shifts we will support you to decide whether you are ready to volunteer in these kinds of roles. If you decide you aren’t ready it is not a problem at all, we can either find an alternative role within the organisation or we’re happy for you to return at a later date when you feel you are ready.
We are happy to provide a reference for you once you are a volunteer, we do suggest though that you volunteer with us for around 3 months first (based on a once-a-week shift). Your Manager will be the best person to provide this reference but for a basic reference (confirmation of dates and role) you can provide the Volunteer Services department’s details.
Our Hospice is on the Windsor Road between Windsor and Maidenhead, next to Bray Lake (SL6 2DN). All the roles listed on this page are based here at the Hospice, for a role closer to home have a look at our retail roles or fundraising roles.
