National Volunteers' Week: A thank you to one of our volunteers
Pat joined Thames Hospice Home as a volunteer in May 2011, following a long career in HR. Initially she gave her time as a cashier, but one day we were short of volunteers to merchandise the shop floor and I asked Pat whether she could help. We soon realised her display skills and she has now become one of our most valued Home store volunteers.
Pat volunteers twice a week at Thames Hospice Home and regularly gives up her time to do extra shifts if we are short of volunteers. The management team will move all the furniture into place and leave Pat to work her magic, which she does with amazing results! Over the years Pat’s room sets have received fantastic comments from many of our customers, managers & senior managers. She has the ability to make old-fashioned furniture look fresh and modern. Pat is also very commercially astute and customer-focussed. Alongside her merchandising skills, you will often hear using her interpersonal skills to make that sale.
Over the past five years, Pat has also been a huge support at some of the events we host in the Home store. The Christmas Fair is an event Pat gets greatly involved in and has been a huge support in helping raise extra income. Pat will go out in her own time, cup in hand, to the local community for donations and tombola prizes to make the wonderful hampers many of you will have seen. These have become so popular that Pat was asked to make some for a customer to which she sold for £25 each; generating an extra £75 from zero outlay costs.
Pat is a very warm, caring, friendly, funny, down-to-earth lady who also does have a little naughty side. Pat is always so supportive of the team and the Home shop. The management team really appreciates all her hard work and support of the Hospice. I am so glad Pat is part of our team. Well done Pat and thank you.
