Meet Chris Dugdale - superstar magician
From being the first magician to perform for Her Majesty The Queen, to entertaining ‘Queen Bey’, Chris Dugdale’s got the Royal seal of approval and he’s performing a special show for Thames Hospice after experiencing our expert care.
Aged 18, Chris became the youngest member of the world-renowned Magic Circle and successfully levitated a presenter on BBC Television's Blue Peter, live in front of 6 million people. Shortly afterwards, he gained the society’s highest honour possible, becoming an Associate of the Inner Magic Circle. Not stopping there, he earned a degree in Psychology and, from that day, combined his education, talent and passion for performance to become a world-famous magician.
Chris’s father was cared for by Thames Hospice and, speaking of this personal connection and the upcoming show, he said: “I wanted to do something to help support the amazing work that is done at the Hospice. The show is a unique combination of magic and mind control, with my own unique performance style making it a hugely fun and interactive experience!”
Chris’ influences include the late Paul Daniels, who also supported Thames Hospice, as well world-renowned Wayne Dobson, ‘the legend of illusion’ David Copperfield, and Las Vegas headliner, Lance Burton. Early in Chris’ career, he worked on and off with Lance, who he credits as ‘the most amazing artist’, and it was here he mastered his magic empire - including countless stage and screen performances and writing and lecturing on the psychology of magic.
Of his success, Chris says he’s ‘worked very, very hard and been very lucky’. Career highlights include 14 Royal performances, entertaining actress Angelina Jolie and The United Nations, as well as Beyoncé and her rapper husband Jay Z, supporting top comedian Michael McIntyre, performing for Brazil’s 1970 World Cup winning team, five Edinburgh Fringe Festivals and many high profile TV appearances. His screen appearances include Penn and Teller, after which they exclaimed the end of his trick was ‘the most amazing they had ever seen’ - a view echoed by Sir Richard Branson, with Simon Cowell simply saying ‘this guy is amazing!’.
If you want to see Chris’s work before your very eyes, his Mindboggling Show of magic and Mind Control will take place at Fredrick’s Hotel, in Maidenhead, on Thursday 30 August 2018 at 7.30pm, and all proceeds go to Thames Hospice. Tickets are limited, to book, click the green button below.
