Sisters Michelle and Laura, owners of Windsor-based childminding business Dougans Den, have, together with local families, smashed their fundraising target in a royal-themed ‘sponsored toddle’ to support Thames Hospice’s Platinum Pledge Fundraiser.

Michelle, who also finds time in her very busy schedule to volunteer for Thames Hospice said: “We know first-hand what wonderful work all of the Hospice staff do and how important fundraising is, so we really wanted to get involved with their Platinum Pledge Fundraiser this year. Many of the children and families who have been part of Dougans Den have had loved ones cared for by the Hospice, so it is a place that is very dear to our hearts.”

She added: “We love our home town and are big supporters of the Royal Family. We spend lots of time outdoors with the little ones exploring the town, visiting Windsor Castle, watching the soldiers Changing of the Guard and visiting the Great Park. One of our favourite places is the Long Walk and, as we encourage the children outdoors for lots of fresh air and exercise, the idea of a sponsored toddle down The Long Walk was born!”

The children, aged between 15 months and 4 years old, braved the cold weather and toddled 4.24km, raising more than £1,600 for the Hospice. People can still sponsor Dougans Den Toddle via their JustGiving page.

Alison Evans, Head of Community & Events, Thames Hospice, said: “A massive well done Dougans Den and all the children who took part. We are so proud of how far they walked and how much money has been raised! They are officially our youngest ever fundraisers!

“We’d love to share more inspiring stories from our supporters, so get your pledge on and raise £70 or more in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year!”

The Thames Hospice Platinum Pledge Fundraiser is asking its community to raise £98,000 this year to help fund additional Nursing Assistants urgently needed to support more patients on the Inpatient Unit. Supporters are encouraged to raise £70 or more in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year.
