Kerry was nominated to volunteer by her 13-year-old son, who thought she was getting a bit lonely at home. One day, on their way to the dentist, they noticed an advert in the window of our Uxbridge shop, appealing for volunteers. They popped in, filled out an application form, and Kerry started in store the very next day. Since then, she has got involved with everything; sorting donations, deliveries, hanging, steaming and tagging clothes, visual merchandising and serving on the till, as well as helping the manager process Gift Aid. She said she really enjoys it, that every day is different and there's always a variety of things to do.
As well as giving us her time, so we can turn sales into vital care, volunteering has had an amazing impact on Kerry's life so much so that she was successful in a recent job application. Returning to work as a Retail Assistant at B&M, Kerry says: "I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done in pushing me to be better. I owe so much to Thames Hospice, as working at the shop literally saved me. I wouldn't be where I am today without it."
Kerry will continue to volunteer around her work shifts and we would just like to congratulate Kerry on her new role and thank her for the immeasurable help she has given to the Hospice. We look forward to seeing you soon.
