Hundreds of Thames Hospice supporters got together to take part in the charity’s annual festive fun run at the enchanting Swinley Forest, Bracknell last Sunday (10 December 2023).
The charity’s much-loved annual fun run attracted over 650 dashers who braved the rain and dressed up in a variety of spectacular festive costumes. Hospice supporters chose from three different routes around the forest – a 2k or 5k route for walkers and jolly joggers or a more challenging 10k run. This year dashers had the option to wear a Santa suit or channel their Christmas creativity and craft their own festive costume. Many supporters even dressed up their fury four-legged friends!
James Blanchard along with his two children Katie and William took part in this year’s Santa Dash, running the 10km route in memory of their Mum Sonia. James said: “Sonia was in Thames Hospice earlier this year and they looked after her amazingly, so we are here to support Thames Hospice. We will keeping coming (to the Santa Dash) every year.
“We wanted to fundraise £500 and we got over £800 so we are really happy about that.”
Emma Andrews, Events Fundraiser says: “The local community are always eager to take part in our Santa Dash as it’s a great way to kick start the festive season.
“Thank you to everyone who dressed up, braved the wet and wild weather and fundraised for us. The support we received has been truly amazing and our wonderful supporters have raised over £25,000 for the Hospice.
"The day wouldn’t have been a success without our dedicated volunteers and staff who carried out essential duties, including registering our Santa dashers and marshalling around the forest. We couldn’t have done it without you!”
Each dasher who crossed the finish line received a Santa Dash medal and got to enjoy the festive atmosphere whilst tucking in to some delicious refreshments. Thames Hospice would like to thank The Crown Estate for allowing use of the forest and The Look Out for providing their facilities.
Welcome to Thames Hospice. We will keep you up to date with the latest news and updates about our work and fundraising activities.
