John Collins, who was being cared for by Thames Hospice just before Christmas, was paid a very special visit on 13th of December from the District Commissioner for South Berkshire Scouts to receive a prestigious award in recognition of his long service to the Scouting Association. John sadly passed away peacefully shortly after surrounded by his family.

Graeme Thompson, District Commissioner for South Berkshire Scouts, said: "It was an absolute pleasure to come to the Hospice and present the award to John. It was very well deserved after almost 10 years serving as Cub Scout Leader for 2nd Easthampstead Scout Group.

"John made an outstanding contribution to his local community and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his family."

John's daughter, Tammy, said: "My dad loved his cubs scout group. He would do anything and spend so many hours making up amazing games and activities for the cubs to do each week. Dad enjoyed every minute working for the Scouting Association and would not have changed anything for the world."

John, his wife and children Tammy and Emily have lived in Bracknell for more than 25 years.
