Thames Hospice welcomed more than 50 influential people from local organisations to an event at the prestigious Guildhall in Windsor last Thursday 8 November 2018. Guests were amongst the first to hear about the Hospice's exciting new build plans and how their companies and staff might be able to get involved in fundraising opportunities to support the Hospice.
The panel, hosted by new Fundraising Director Sarah Bissell, included the Hospices Chief Executive, Debbie Raven, Thames Hospice Ambassador and local entrepreneur Alison Cooper, as well as Corporate Supporter Sarah Newby, Legal Counsel and Company Secretary, Urenco.
Debbie provided some key insights into the current work of the Hospice. Debbie Raven said: "Despite all of our life-changing work, we have a significant problem. The care we provide is outstanding, but our building is holding us back.
"With growing demand for our services, we are embarking on building a new hospice by Bray Lake, near Maidenhead, that will serve the needs of the community now and into the future. We are confident our new hospice and expanded community services will be able to support everyone who needs us when we open in 2020."
Sarah Newby shared how Urenco's staff are currently supporting Thames Hospice. Alison Cooper and her former staff at En Route were personally touched by the work of the Hospice after a fellow employee was cared for. Both Sarah and Alison offered advice on how companies can support the charity and make a huge difference to local lives.
Guests included Steve Wilson, Managing Partner, 2hWealthcare LLP based in Beaconsfield. Steve Wilson said "It was a great evening and we are looking forward to working with you and like-minded corporate partners supporting this very worthy cause."
Other companies represented included Maidenhead-based event management business Conference Contacts, Savills Guildford and Windsor branches, IBB Solicitors based in Uxbridge and Onimpact, a design marketing agency situated in Wokingham. We were also delighted to welcome Jeremy Spooner, CEO, Baylis Media. The Louis Baylis Trust is a significant supporter of the Hospice and has donated £115,000 for the physiotherapy centre in the new build.
The new build will cost an estimated £18 million. Through the support of our community, we have raised £15 million. However, we desperately need support from local companies and entrepreneurs to help us raise the remaining £3 million, as well as the £8 million it costs annually to keep the Hospice running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Welcome to Thames Hospice. We will keep you up to date with the latest news and updates about our work and fundraising activities.
