In September this year Thames Hospice launched Raise the Roof, the most ambitious public fundraising appeal in the charity's 30-year history, to help raise the final £3million needed to complete the build of a new state-of-the-art hospice for the community. Thanks to the generosity and dedication of its local community, the Hospice is thrilled to announce that the campaign has reached an incredible halfway milestone of £1.5 million.
The Hospice has been supporting Lisa Parris-Cambridge, 49, her husband and young daughters this year. We were honoured that Lisa allowed us to share her family's experience of the Hospice as part of our 'Raise the Roof' campaign. Lisa sadly passed away on Sunday 1 December in the Hospice, surrounded by her loved ones. Her husband is determined that we fulfil Lisa's wish to continue to share their story to help raise funds for the new hospice so that we will be able to support even more families for generations to come.
Christmas will be an incredibly challenging time for Lisas and many other local families facing terminal illness and the loss of a loved one, but Thames Hospice can be there for them. In Lisa's daughters own words: "Sonia (Specialist Social Worker - Children and Families at Thames Hospice) helps us feel better when mummy and daddy feel sick."
This Christmas we are calling on our community to help us raise £60,000 to fund a counselling room in the new hospice so our Patient & Family Support Team can give every local family the emotional care they need.
