Last September Michael and Lin Gilbey, owners of Gilbey's restaurants based in Eton, Berkshire, and Old Amersham, Buckinghamshire, pledged their support to raise £30,000 to fund a counselling room at the new hospice, due to open in July 2020 by Bray Lake, Maidenhead.

As part of their fundraising efforts, Gilbey's is asking their customers for a voluntary donation of 0.50 per head when they visit either of their restaurants over the course of the year. Staff members have also got behind the fundraising efforts, including Samuel Sumner who raised more than £700 by shaving his hair in aid of the Hospice. In just four months, Gilbey's has already raised over £7,000 and well on their way to achieving their target.

Commenting on their support for the Hospice, Michael and Lin said: "As local restauranteurs we are deeply passionate about our community and delighted to be able to support Thames Hospice who make such a difference. Funding a counselling room means we can do our bit to help support families at their times of need.

"We are thrilled that each and every member of our staff are behind our fundraising efforts and the response from our customers has just been amazing. "

Jane Symmons, Head of Major Gifts at Thames Hospice said: "We are so proud and honoured to have the support of one of the most eminent restaurants in our area. Michael and Lins passion for hospice care and support of Thames Hospice radiates from them and throughout their dedicated staff. We know they will smash their £30,000 goal!"
