The Shanly Foundation has donated an incredible £400,000 which will fund the Day Therapy Suite in the Paul Bevan Centre at the new hospice currently under construction by Bray Lake. The new centre will support thousands of patients and families every year for generations to come.

To mark the occasion, Thames Hospice Chief Executive and Tamra Booth and Tim Potter, Shanly Foundation Trustees, laid the very first brick at the new hospice site on Tuesday 28 May 2019.

The Shanly Foundation has been a loyal supporter of Thames Hospice for over 17 years, donating more than £125,000 and the lead sponsor of our much-loved Santa Dash event for many years.

Debbie Raven, Chief Executive, Thames Hospice, said: "We are enormously excited and hugely grateful for the generosity of the Shanly Foundation in making our dream become a reality. This dedicated space will allow us to double our day service provision meaning we can, for the first time, offer support sessions specifically for younger adults and carers desperately needing a break. The Shanly Foundation's donation will make a difference to thousands of local families every year who urgently need to access our support and care."

The Day Therapy Suite will also offer a wider range of therapeutic and social activities for day patients and inpatients including music and art therapy, and complementary therapies such as massage and acupuncture.

Tamra Booth, Trustee, Shanly Foundation, said: "We're delighted that, in our 50th year, we were able to give our largest donation ever given by the Shanly Foundation to Thames Hospice. We have been in discussions with the hospice team for a considerable time regarding their plans for the new hospice and we are thrilled that the monies will be used to pay for an essential Day Therapy Suite."
