A gift of even 1% of your estate can make a difference and help to ensure we can care for local families when they are facing great pain and loss. There is no obligation to leave a gift to us in your Will. However, we hope that once you have looked after your loved ones, that you will consider remembering Thames Hospice too.

What information is needed to include a gift in my Will?

What about inheritance tax?
All gifts to charity are exempt from inheritance tax. If you leave 10% or more of your estate to charities, it will reduce the amount of rate of inheritance tax (36% instead of 40%) on the rest of your estate. Please speak to your solicitor for legal advice.
Can I write my own Will?
Yes, however the danger is that you may overlook something that will either create confusion or affect the impact of inheritance tax. For example, you could express a wish that is not legally enforceable.

What if I want to change my Will at a later date?
That is perfectly fine. Solicitors normally advise you to review your Will every few years to make sure that it doesn’t become out of date and that it reflects your changing circumstances. Should I tell you that I've left a gift in my Will?
There is absolutely no obligation to tell us that you have left Thames Hospice a gift in your Will and any pledge you make is not legally binding.
