Appendix A: Thames Hospice Lottery Full Terms and Conditions
1. Definitions
"Act": The Gambling Act 2005.
"Chance": The entry into the Lottery.
"Draw": The process by which winners are selected.
"External Lottery Manager": Sterling Management Centre Limited.
"Game Number": The six-digit number unique to each Member or the seven-digit number unique to each Player and to each Chance.
"Lottery": The Thames Hospice Lottery.
"Member": An individual who has registered with the Lottery.
"Player": An individual who has purchased one or more Single Entry Chances in Thames Hospice shops.
"Prize Entry Chances": Chances paid for by Thames Hospice at the same cost as all other tickets in the relevant draw that have been won as a prize in a previous draw.
"Promoter": Thames Hospice.
"Rollover": Occurs when a specific prize is not won in a draw. Unallocated prize funds are added to the following draw(s) up to a maximum of £10,000, at which point the prize is guaranteed to be won.
"Rules": The rules of the Thames Hospice Lottery as set out below and amended from time to time.
"Single Entry Chances": One-off chances purchased in Thames Hospice shops.
Entry into the Thames Hospice Lottery
The Lottery is promoted throughout Great Britain in accordance with the Gambling Act 2005. To comply with the Act, during the purchase of Lottery Chances you must confirm that:
- a. You are at least 18 years of age.
- b. You are a resident of Great Britain (England, Scotland, or Wales; excluding Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, and BFPO addresses).
- c. You are not buying or claiming to buy Lottery chances on behalf of any other person.
Important Note: If, upon winning any prize, you cannot prove you met criteria (a), (b), and (c), you will not be entitled to receive that prize.
- Age Verification: Thames Hospice conducts randomized checks on 10% of online entrants using national datasets. Alternative verification measures apply for face-to-face registrations.
- No Refunds: Once purchased and entered into their intended Draw, Lottery Chances cannot be refunded.
- Amendments: Rules may be amended from time to time. Material changes will be published on the website at least 28 days before taking effect.
- Entry Limits & Deadlines: The maximum number of entries per individual is 10 per draw. Only Chances with cleared funds are eligible.
- Subscription Players: Payment must be received by Thursday of that week's draw.
- Single Entry Chances: Payment must be received by 12:00 (midday) on Wednesday of that week's draw.
Registration with the Lottery
(Note: This applies only to recurring subscriptions via direct debit. Single tickets sold in retail outlets do not require registration.)
Required Information:
- Name and address (for entry confirmation and prize contact).
- Confirmation that you are over 18 years of age.
- Number of Chances you wish to purchase.
Optional/Requested Information:
- Contact telephone number, mobile number, date of birth, email address, and communication/marketing preferences.
Payment Methods:
- Cash, Debit Card, Credit Card: Accepted only for Single Entry Chances purchased via shop/cafe terminals.
- Direct Debit & Open Banking: Accepted online via the website or face-to-face terminals.
- Bank Statement References: Direct Debits appear as
THAMESXXXXXXX. Open Banking appears as STERLINGLOTTERIES. Cheques must be payable to "Thames Hospice Lottery".
Eligibility Restrictions:
- Thames Hospice employees may join the Lottery and play one-off raffles.
- Employees of the External Lottery Manager (Sterling) and members of the Thames Hospice Lottery team are not permitted to play.
Direct Debit Cancellations & Customer Funds
- Cancellation: You may cancel by notifying the Lottery in writing or by email. Future Direct Debits will be stopped as soon as practicable. Any unused balance below £1 left untouched for four consecutive years will be treated as a voluntary donation.
- Fund Protection: Customer funds for future draws are held in a separate bank account, segregated from trading income. This meets the Gambling Commission’s requirements for medium protection.
Draws & Prizes
Draws are held weekly on Fridays (or the next business day if a public holiday) at the External Lottery Manager's offices using a certified random number generator.
Prize Structure:
- First Prize: 1 x £1,000
- Second Prize: £200 Rollover (accumulates up to a maximum of £10,000)
- Third Prize: 10 x £10
- Fourth Prize: 20 x Five Prize Entry Chances
- Claiming Prizes: Direct Debit winners are paid automatically via direct credit transfer within one week. Cheque subscribers receive a cheque by post. Shop players must claim their prize within 90 days of the draw online or by calling the helpline. Unclaimed prizes after 6 months (or 90 days for shop tickets) are treated as donations.
Prize Entry Chances
- Prize Entry Chances are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
- If won by a Direct Debit subscriber, they are automatically entered into the next week's draw under new unique Game Numbers. If won by a shop Player via a Single Entry Chance, they will be issued the monetary equivalent.
Self-Exclusion & Responsible Gambling
- If you have a gambling problem, you can request a self-exclusion form by calling 0370 050 1694 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm).
- The self-exclusion period is a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 5 years. All marketing will cease, and remaining funds will be returned. A 24-hour cooling-off period applies if you choose to reinstate your account after the exclusion period.

Appendix B: Thames Hospice Raffle Terms and Conditions
General Rules
- Open only to residents of Great Britain aged 18 or over (excludes Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, and BFPO addresses).
- Tickets must not be bought on behalf of anyone else.
- Entry ticket cost is £1. The maximum raffle purchase is capped at £100 per person.
- Late Entries: Tickets received after the published closing date will be treated as donations.
Raffle Prizes
- 1st Prize: £3,000
- 2nd Prize: £400
- 3rd Prize: £100
- Runners-up: 6 x £10
- Note: There are no alternatives to any prize. Winners have one month after notification to claim their prize.
The Draw & Verification
- The raffle utilizes a combined online/offline draw via a certified Random Number Generator alongside a blind draw in plain sight of staff.
- Winners will be notified by post, email, or telephone within two weeks. A summary of winners (e.g., Ms Smith from Slough) will be published online.
- For online entries, players must self-certify their age. Random verification checks apply.
Fast Reply Draw
- To qualify, players must respond to the current raffle campaign with a ticket or donation by the published date.
- Qualified responders get one entry into the Fast Reply Draw.
- Prizes: 4 winners will each receive a £25 Marks & Spencer’s gift card (includes UK delivery).
- Fast Reply winners remain fully eligible to win prizes in the main Raffle.
