Tanya’s story
“My health has improved dramatically since I started here. I did it for myself, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.”

For one local woman, finding the right volunteer role wasn’t just about filling time—it was about finding purpose, connection, and a better quality of life.
“I was looking for something to do that would fit in with my lifestyle,” Tanya explains. “The Reading Superstore is just a short walk from my home, and it felt like the perfect opportunity.”
Since joining the team at the Superstore, she has experienced a transformation—not only in her mood and confidence but also in her health. Living with fibromyalgia, she says the changes have been remarkable.
“It has done me the world of good,” she explains. “My health has improved dramatically since I started here. I did it for myself, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.”
The daily rhythm of the store, the steady stream of friendly faces, and the sense of giving back have all become essential to her. “I’m having such a lovely time. I’ve met so many great people, and I love chatting and being social—it’s who I am. I’m a real people person.”
Whether she’s on the till talking with customers or accepting donations at the door, she says the atmosphere is uplifting and inclusive. “The team works with you and around you. There’s a real sense of support here, and I just love it.”
Her story is a testament to the power of community and the simple joy of doing something good—not just for others, but for yourself too.
