This season can be particularly challenging for those grieving. It’s essential to remember that grief affects everyone differently; here’s no right or wrong way to process loss. As you journey through this difficult time, prioritise your well-being and do not do more than you are able.

Here are some suggestions that may help you, your family or friends deal with grief.

  • Allow yourself to feel your emotions no matter what they might be, don’t supress them.
  • Talk to others: Share your feelings with loved ones, friends, or a therapist. Talking about your grief can be cathartic and help you process your emotions.
  • Be patient and kind with yourself: Grief affects us in many different ways (mind, body and spirit) so concentration and tolerance can deteriorate, anxiety can increase. Pace yourself and…..
  • Take care of yourself: Prioritise self-care, start with small steps. Eat healthily, take regular exercise, get enough sleep. Try different things, maybe journaling or creative activities.
  • Practice mindfulness and meditation: These techniques can help you stay present and reduce stress.
  • Join a support group: Grief can be lonely. Connecting with others who have experienced loss can help.
  • Seek professional help: If you're struggling to cope, consider seeking the support of a therapist or counsellor rather than turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms such as drinking alcohol etc.

Make a difference

Our services are free of charge to all those in our community who need vital hospice care but this is only made possible through the charitable support and generosity of our amazing community. We need to raise £39,000 each day to fund our services 365 days a year to the people who need us most.

We’ve never needed you, our wonderful supporters, more than we need you today. Please donate what you can to help keep hospice care available for those in desperate need.
