John’s story
“It’s creating income for a cause that matters, while reducing waste and giving forgotten items a future.”
“It’s creating income for a cause that matters, while reducing waste and giving forgotten items a future.”
For the past seven years, John has been a familiar face at the King’s Grove upcycling studio—a community-driven initiative that turns discarded items into renewed treasures. Having owned a shop fitting company, John brought his hands-on expertise and eye for design to a new kind of craft: giving broken or damaged items a second chance.
“I wanted to do something practical,” John explains. “That’s when the idea struck me—why not repair things that people would otherwise throw away and make them useful again?”
And that’s exactly what he’s been doing.
Twice a week, John dedicates his time to repairing and restoring items, transforming what once had no value into beautiful, saleable pieces. But it’s not just about the satisfaction of fixing things—it’s about purpose. All proceeds from the upcycled goods go directly to support the Hospice, helping fund vital services for those in need.
“What we’re doing here is more than just mending,” John says. “It’s creating income for a cause that matters, while reducing waste and giving forgotten items a future.”
Thanks to passionate volunteers like John, the King’s Grove upcycling studio continues to thrive—blending sustainability, creativity, and community for something meaningful.
