Pete came to the Thames Hospice Inpatient Unit just before his 92nd birthday. Sophia, a Sister on our Inpatient Unit, cares for our patients every day and to her, every patient is special. But Pete was extra-special. Pete was Sophia’s Nan’s partner of 36 years, and like a grandad to her.
During his stay with us, Pete was able to be visited by his whole family, his son Colin, Joyce (Sophia’s Nan), grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was space for all the family to visit and be comfortable, even the family sausage dog, Libby!
Pete, a keen gardener, enjoyed a view of the Hospice gardens and Bray Lake from his room.
Sophia said “We were all relieved to have Pete at the Hospice. We had space and time with him. He was comfortable, peaceful and he passed away with his son and daughter-in-law by his side.
At the Hospice we were able to create special memories and say our goodbyes. We’re so grateful to have been able to do that together
The Hospice makes a HUGE difference, and it has been truly eye opening."
Our services are free of charge to all those in our community who need vital hospice care but this is only made possible through the charitable support and generosity of our amazing community. We need to raise £34,000 each day to fund our services 365 days a year to the people who need us most.
We’ve never needed you, our wonderful supporters, more than we need you today. Please donate what you can to help keep hospice care available for those in desperate need.
