“Selling rare or vintage LEGO sets is incredibly rewarding, knowing how much collectors appreciate these pieces.”
For the past four years, Drew has been a Thames Hospice eBay volunteer, specialising in valuing and selling a diverse range of items, including coins, stamps, and LEGO sets. With a background as a civil servant and a lifelong passion for LEGO, Drew’s role combines his love for history with a commitment to the Hospice.
"My main job is to research donated items, decide what to sell in our eBay shop, and list them with accurate descriptions and great photos," says Drew. The charity’s stock includes everything from clothes and toys to collectibles like model railways and vintage cameras. Drew enjoys unearthing the stories behind these items, knowing that each one holds a unique history.
Drew never expected to delve into the world of collectibles. "I didn’t imagine I’d be researching 17th-century coins or valuing antique silver," he reflects. Over time, however, he has developed a deep understanding of the field, feeling at times like a curator in a museum. "It’s humbling to handle items with such historical significance," he adds.
Drew’s love for LEGO plays a special role in his work. “Selling rare or vintage LEGO sets is incredibly rewarding,” he says, knowing how much collectors appreciate these pieces.
Through volunteering, Drew has not only expanded his knowledge but also deepened his connection to the past. "Handling items that have been passed down through generations is a truly special experience," he concludes, reflecting on the impact of his work in both preserving history and supporting a good cause.
