Chris’s story
“It’s such a fulfilling experience, and it’s amazing to be a part of something that does so much good for the local community.”
“It’s such a fulfilling experience, and it’s amazing to be a part of something that does so much good for the local community.”
For the past eight years, Chris has been an integral part of the Thames Hospice community, volunteering one day a week with unwavering dedication. Over the years, she’s done a bit of everything, from sorting and pricing items to managing the tills. But it’s behind the counter where Chris truly shines—working the tills, interacting with customers, and witnessing firsthand the kindness and joy that comes with each sale.
Chris's role involves a variety of tasks, but she especially loves the opportunity to engage with customers. “I really enjoy working on the tills,” she says with a smile. “It’s not just about ringing up purchases; it’s about connecting with people. I love seeing what they’re buying and having a chat with them. Some of our regulars just come in for a friendly conversation, and it’s nice to catch up each week.”
What keeps Chris coming back week after week is the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the Maidenhead Homestore and the excitement of never knowing what might be on the shelves. "I absolutely love the store," she shares. "There's always something new to discover - you never know what treasures you might find!"
For Chris, volunteering isn’t just about the tasks she completes—it’s about the connections she makes and the joy she brings to others. “I look forward to volunteering each week,” she says. “It’s such a fulfilling experience, and it’s amazing to be a part of something that does so much good for the local community.”
