Carl's story
“Having such a supportive team is lovely, they make it all worthwhile.”
“Having such a supportive team is lovely, they make it all worthwhile.”
For Carl, volunteering with the Thames Hospice eBay team is far more than just a pastime, it’s a meaningful way to make a positive difference to people’s lives while doing something practical and rewarding.
“Every sale contributes directly to supporting the Hospice,” Carl explains. “Being part of a team that shares that purpose gives me a real sense of connection and achievement.”
Carl adds, “It was a personal choice to volunteer with Thames Hospice as my wife spent her last weeks in the great care of the hospice,” he says. “I always felt that I wanted to ‘give back.’ But the experience has been far greater than that, it’s helped me personally, and I’ve met some lovely people along the way.”
One of the things Carl enjoys most about volunteering with the eBay team is the variety that each day brings. “No day is the same,” he says. “Every day you get new items to research and value. Sometimes you think something might be junk, but you’re regularly surprised at what sells!”
The supportive atmosphere among the eBay volunteers is another highlight. “There’s such a strong sense of commitment from everyone,” Carl adds. “Having such a supportive team is lovely, they make it all worthwhile.”
“When I go home, I feel great,” he says. “And when I see the items I’ve listed start receiving bids, I get a huge sense of achievement.”
Our services are free of charge to all those in our community who need vital hospice care but this is only made possible through the charitable support and generosity of our amazing community. We need to raise £39,000 each day to fund our services 365 days a year to the people who need us most.
We’ve never needed you, our wonderful supporters, more than we need you today. Please donate what you can to help keep hospice care available for those in desperate need.
