Syringe pump use and end-of-life care drugs

Session duration: 3 hours (1.30pm-4.30pm)

During this session we will cover practice with using syringe pumps, indications for use, advantages and disadvantages, siting, equipment needed, the three point detection system, checks before use, alarms, troubleshooting, ending an infusion and responsibilities. We will also cover the main symptoms experience by people at the end of their live, the main drugs used to manage these symptoms and how and when to contact the Specialist Palliative Care Team for advice.

The session includes an opportunity to gain competency in the classroom, but competency in practice remains the responsibility of the attendee's organisation.

The session is free and will be delivered at Thames Hospice, Windsor Road, Maidenhead, SL6 2DN.
