Effective communication between patients and clinicians is fundamental to the delivery of high-quality care. We know how highly patients and their carers value good communication and we know from a sound body of research that communication skills can be improved through experiential learning. The evidence tells us that this course can help you feel more confident and able to handle difficult conversations.
The course is experiential using role play and trained actors to simulate the part of a patient, carer or colleagues. As a delegate this requires your participation in all sessions and to work with the rest of the group to give constructive feedback.
The course includes completion of three hours pre-course e-learning plus a requirement to attend both dates at Thames Hospice's Education Centre, Windsor Road, Maidenhead SL6 2DN.
"The facilitators were excellent at keeping the course running at a steady pace but giving us time to think and reflect. We were able to really delve down into our own situation and practice different outcomes in a safe and encouraging environment. I found the role play a great way to put theory into practice and also learn more about how other people feel in similar situations – that we are all nervous but all want a good outcome."
