More than a chair appeal

Help us give patients greater comfort

Our Patients

The patients at Thames Hospice are often very weak and need the kind of specialist care that only a hospice can give. Keeping them as comfortable as possible at this time is one of the most important things that we can do for them.

Patients like ours are vulnerable to pressure ulcers. Everything must be done to help prevent this potentially severe condition from developing.

We are looking for pressure-relieving chairs to not only greatly reduce the risk of pressure ulcers but also give people nearing the end of their lives the opportunity to sit up to eat and drink and sit comfortably with their families when they visit. To enhance their lives in their final days.

You can read more about the importance of these chairs in a message from Ward Sister Emma Fitzpatrick-Burke.

Meet Susie

Susie was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2014. Last year she suffered a stroke. After spending time in hospital she came here for full time care.

Susie spends the majority of her time in a chair but, finding it hard to move on her own, she needs the nurses to help her. Her 17-year-old son, Leon has written a letter to share a bit about what the care and comfort the Hospice provides means to them.

More than a chair

These chairs will give patients much more than just a comfortable place to sit, they can help patients make the most of every moment surrounded by those they love.

These chairs are more than just a piece of furniture. By joining in with this appeal and sending a gift you’ll be bringing a smile to the faces of people with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones. You can find out more about the chairs and what they will mean for patients here.
