China Trek: Not long now!
Elaine of The Wallflowers:
Less than two months to go and still so much to do! Our fundraising target of £6,600 is almost in sight. For our final push, we’re organising a Cocktails for China evening on 4 October at the Grenfell Arms, in Maidenhead, collecting at Waitrose, in Beaconsfield, on 16 September, and running a Christmas-themed Raffle just before we leave.
It’s been a busy summer of car-boot sales and shoes! We’ve been in search of illusive size 7 Cinderellas for an amazing collection of new and almost new quality shoes, we were kindly given to sell to boost our fundraising. Susan has been very busy with car-boot sales – while I’ve been off camping with elephants, hippos and lions in Botswana... not sure which was more stressful.
To be honest, on the training side, Susan’s put in a lot more time than me. I’ve only managed a couple of gentle strolls along the river. I’m hoping to make up for this with a hike up the Montgo, in Javea on Spain’s Costa Blanca, where I used to live, at the end of the month.
Having just received our flight details for Beijing, it’s time to start applying for our visas for China, which makes the whole trek suddenly seem very real and that Wall look very, very, very tall!
