Actress takes leap of faith for Thames Hospice

Star of stage and screen, Sue Holderness, took a leap of faith in her first role as an official Thames Hospice Ambassador.

Best known for playing Marlene Boyce in much-loved British sitcom Only Fools and Horses, on Tuesday (23 August 2016) Sue faced something far out of her comfort zone to raise vital funds and awareness for us - completing a tandem skydive with The Red Devils.

Sue took to the skies of Salisbury, from Old Sarum Airlfield, with other daredevils including Thames Hospice fundraisers and staff.

Sue said:The sensation of falling was exhilarating and, surprisingly, not scary at all. As the parachute opened, we slowed to a blissfully quiet and gentle float through the air. We could see Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral and the Isle of Wight and just marvel at the beauty of our 'green and pleasant land'.

“I want to say THANK YOU to the amazing Red Devils and I urge everyone to do it! Also THANK YOU to Thames Hospice – it’s an honour to raise funds for this amazing charity.”

The Red Devils are the official parachute display team of the British Army. They perform at high profile and spectacular events around the country, raising the profile of the British Army. They only have a limited number of charity jump days a year and Thames Hospice is lucky enough to get these sought-after places.

Louise Fallon, Thames Hospice’s Marketing and PR Assistant, who daringly jumped on the day said: “I was inspired to jump as I see the expert care our patients and their families receive every day and we simply could not deliver this without people’s generous donations and fundraising feats. The skydive was amazing and I will be buzzing for months - I would recommend it to anyone.’

A tandem skydive with the Red Devils is a truly unique experience, so what are you waiting for? The next available date is 21 September and places are filling quickly.
